Enjoy East Coast style pizza at the new Dino’s Tomato Pie restaurant in Seattle! Helmed by Chef Brandon Pettit of Delancey, Dino’s establishes itself as a throwback pizzeria where everything from its interior decor to website is deliciously retro. As for the food, Dino’s revels in the New Jersey round and square tomato pie, rather than traditional New York style pizzas that Seattle seems to love so much. The result is a crispy yet bready crust that is absolutely delicious, if you’re a fan of this particular tomato pie style, that is. The pizzeria is open late night from 4pm-2am and also has a hearty selection of beer and cocktails to wash that tomato pie down.

Location: 1524 East Olive Way

One of the absolute best places in Seattle to enjoy fresh hot wings and beer is The Wing Dome. With a location in Greenwood and another in Kirkland, The Wing Dome’s main specialty is chicken wings smothered in sauces ranging in choice from Thai Sweet Chili, Triple Garlic, and super hot sauces. Speaking of hot sauce, the absolute hottest of them all is called 7-Alarm, and it comes with its own 7-Alarm Challenge, reserved for only those with the bravest of taste buds.

If hot wings aren’t quite your flavor, The Wing Dome also offers a slew of other menu items including burgers, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers including their famous waffle cut french fries.

Ethan Stowell’s popular Italian restaurant Tavolàta has been flourishing in its Belltown location and now has another branch in Capitol Hill. Located in the heart of the vibrant neighborhood, the second Tavolàta location takes advantage of its cornered space by offering floor-to-ceiling windows that can open on a warm, sunny day to give the feeling of dining on an open-aired street corner. The rest of the space features exposed wood beams, booth and table seating, an open back kitchen, and a modern bar. Food-wise, the menu doesn’t stray far from the original Tavolàta’s offerings, focusing mainly on pasta dishes such as rigatoni, bucatini, and gnocchi, as well as house favorites such as pork chop and smoked fish bruschetta.

Tavolàta Capitol Hill is the latest of Ethan Stowell Restaurant’s new offerings in the city. Other ESR brands include Goldfinch Tavern located in the Four Seasons Hotel, and Bramling Cross.

Seattleites rejoice! The Nest is finally open, offering locals and guests to Seattle the opportunity to enjoy the city’s unique waterfront cityscape views from high atop the Emerald City’s newest boutique hotel, Thompson Seattle. Appropriately dubbed The Nest, the modern space encompasses 3500 square feet and features an indoor bar and lounge space in addition to ample outdoor patio seating for small and large groups. Expansive views of the city of Seattle including the iconic waterfront and Pike Place Market area can be seen, making the ideal place for enjoying a cocktail with spectacular sunset views. Speaking of cocktails, each of the drinks on the menu is named after a bird including a flamingo drink that is served in a large copper flamingo.

The Nest was conceived by renowned local architecture firm Olson Kundig and features a culinary menu helmed by Josh Henderson of Huxley Wallace Collective. Other restaurants under the Huxley Wallace brand include Quality Athletics, Westward, and Scout PNW, the latter of which is located at the base of the Thompson Seattle.

Scout PNW is one of the latest restaurants from Huxley Wallace Collective’s slew of new, high-end eateries populating downtown Seattle. Located at the base of city’s newest luxury hotel Thompson Seattle, Scout PNW sports a unique interior full of woodsy, outdoor charm with lots of features reminiscent of a Boy Scout era such as vintage mugs, flannel upholstery, and a charming private dining area with the appearance of a deconstructed cabin. There’s also an intimate Chef’s Table offering a 15-17 course meal showcasing the very best of Puget Sound’s food. On the menu is a host of Pacific Northwest gems conjured by Chef Josh Henderson. You’ll find shellfish and oysters, foraged mushrooms, and grass-fed beef, all locally sourced.

Restaurant – Bok a Bok

Posted on

Bok a Bok Chicken is a “fast food” service joint in Seattle’s White Center neighborhood, serving up delicious Korean fried chicken. At the helm is Chef Brian O’Connor and the menu dishes up a modern, Asian-inspired menu including rice bowls, fried chicken sandwich, housemade biscuits, kimchi mac and cheese, and sweet potato tater tots. Check out the interior and architecture photos in the gallery below!

Ballard has a cute new Italian restaurant! Dubbed San Fermo, the rustic trattoria is located in a pair of transformed nineteenth-century houses, and now operates under the helm of Chef Sam West, formerly of nearby restaurant Percy’s. The restaurant is backed by a trio of seasoned restauranteurs: Tim Baker and partners Jeff Ofelt and Wade Weigel, the guys who also brought us Rudy’s barbershops, the Ace Hotel, Bimbo’s, Cha Cha, and Percy’s. Similar to their other projects, San Fermo has a very aesthetically pleasing vibe throughout its rather large and diverse interior which includes a front dining room with an open kitchen, a more private back dining room an intimate bar area, and plentiful outdoor patio seating. In the back room, check out the impressive wall-mounted collection of wooden cutting boards, all hand-forged by Baker himself. Food-wise, the menu is inspired by regional Italian cuisine and includes handmade pasta, sandwiches, and more.

Check out photos of San Fermo’s beautiful interior below, as well as photos from their food and cocktail menu.

San Fermo is located at 5347 Ballard Ave NW and is open for lunch and dinner 7 nights a week, as well as a special Sunday night farmer’s market supper.

Posted on

Were you one of many who were devastated by the March 31, 2016 closure of iconic Seattle restaurant Mama’s Mexican Kitchen, now’s the time to rejoice! The Belltown favorite has officially reopened in its same location under a new name and owner. Now known as Mama’s Cantina, the restaurant is owned by Marcus Charles, who is also the owner of popular nearby spots Local 360, Bell + Whete , and The Crocodile. Charles took over the space formerly owned by Mike and Marla McAlpin and made some overhauls of the interior, as pictured below. While the remodel leaves some pretty big structural changes such as shifting the bar up front by the entrance and knocking down some walls to open the space up, many favorite features of Mama’s remain, such as the Elvis room. Another big change was the restaurant’s food, which is now headed by Chef Jenny Izaguirre. Originally from Honduras with lots of experience working in Los Angeles, Izaguirre revamps Mama’s menu to feature a LA-inspired twist on Mexican street foods. Think Korean kalbi tacos, bahn mi pork bowls, and a “breakfast any time” bowl of eggs, chorizo, beans, rice, and guacamole.

Mama’s Cantina is located at 2234 2nd Avenue in Belltown, and is open from 4pm-2am Monday through Friday, and noon-2am on Saturday and Sunday.

Seattle has a new fine dining restaurant in town in the form of Heartwood Provisions. Featuring a robust food and cocktail menu with a special emphasis on beverage pairings throughout the meal, Heartwood Provisions offers uniquely rustic and urban dining within a sleek modern space. Taking up a corner space in downtown Seattle previously occupied by McCormick and Schmick’s, Heartwood Provisions is led by Chef Varin Keokitvon, while the beverage program is headed by Amanda Reed. Drawing on Chef Varin’s Laotian heritage and culinary experiences in Spain, the menu is a distinct blend of the two cultures. Take for instance the restaurant’s featured “Original Provision” consisting of chunky Wagyu beef jerky with spicy chili preserve, served with Cerveza Er Boqueron Sea Salt Ale and Carpano Bianco Vermouth (pictured below).

Seattle Food Photographer Suzi Pratt 02

My involvement as Heartwood Provisions’ photographer began in summer of 2015, before the restaurant space was even constructed. It was my first time working with a restaurant for such as extended period of time, and it led to some interesting periods of improvisation, testing my skills as a food photographer. Our very first food menu shoot which had to be conducted in an industrial kitchen space since the restaurant was still under heavy construction. Being unable to stick to my signature food photography style of incorporating restaurant interiors into my shots, I had to improvise quite a bit to make the shoot work, yet was very pleased with the results.

Over the course of nearly 8 months from concept until Heartwood Provisions’ grand opening in early 2016, I went through several food and cocktail photo shoots, as well as a headshot session and interior photography shoot of the space. As a result, pretty much every visual image associated with Heartwood Provisions is one of mine. Take a look at some of photos in the website screenshots below, with many more food photos and cocktail photos available.
