Elliott’s Oyster House is an iconic seafood restaurant located on the Seattle waterfront. Specializing in offerings of fresh, sustainably-sourced seafood, Elliott’s is the place to go for a casual or formal meal. Enjoy fresh seafood such as crab, raw oysters, mussels, and crab cakes. Or stick to Elliott’s traditional menu offerings of a burger and fries. The choice is yours, but at the very least, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of Elliott Bay from just about any seat in the house!

Photos: Heartwood Provisions Fall 2016 Menu

Heartwood Provisions is a posh restaurant in downtown Seattle serving New American dishes. The barely year old establishment has been making a name for itself thanks to a stellar menu with an emphasis on modern culinary dishes paired with unique cocktails. I’ve been honored to do food photography at Heartwood Provisions while it was in various states of development, including a sneak peek photo shoot of menu items as they were still in development in Spring 2015. Since the restaurant focuses on using as much local, organic produce as possible, their menu changes seasonally. Below are some snapshots taken of new menu items and beverage pairings for the Fall 2016 season.

West Seattle is welcoming a brand new pie bakery to the neighborhood! A la Mode Pies originally opened in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood, across the street from Woodland Park Zoo. Its huge success spurned a second, much larger location in a new part of town. Housed in a 2,000 square foot space in West Seattle on the corner of Alaska Street and California Avenue, A la Mode Pies offers an extended menu of its sweet and savory pies. Also on the menu are boozy milkshakes, wine, and beer. Take a look inside of the new Seattle pies cafe, plus photos of signature pies and behind-the-scenes of the on-site bakery.

One of Seattle’s best restaurants is located a ferry ride away from the Emerald City over on Bainbridge Island. Hitchcock Restaurant is the epitome of the region’s farm to fork eateries, as evidenced by Chef Brendan McGill’s emphasis on locally sourced cuisine, which rotates daily based on what’s available. All dishes at Hitchcock are masterful works of art, thoughtfully composed for visual and tasteful appeal. It’s no wonder McGill was a James Beard Award semifinalist. I had the honor of photographing McGill’s acclaimed tasting menu, as well as shooting menu items at his nearby juice bar, Verjus. Check out select photos below.

The Hawaiian poke craze continues in Seattle with the opening of Wanderfish Poke in the neighborhood of Capitol Hill. With a pretty straightforward menu and a colorful interior, Wanderfish offers an array of modern choices including chef creations and the option to build your own bowl. Also on the menu are several unique items including a sushi burrito and poke nachos.

Poke is a raw fish salad typically associated with Hawaiian cuisine, and it has become hugely popular throughout the mainland lately. Wanderfish is among the first restaurants to offer poke with an emphasis on ethically sourced ingredients and gluten-free options.

Seattle Chef Brendan McGill is known for his love of meats, as highlighted through his celebrated Hitchcock Deli. However, this James Beard Award semifinalist also has a love for vegetarian cuisine, which he highlights in his latest venture, Verjus. Inspired and largely designed by his wife, Heidi, Verjus is a bright, open space features an array of fresh, cold-pressed juices and a tantalizing menu of vegetarian cuisine. Verjus is located on Bainbridge Island  just a few steps away from McGill’s original Hitchcock Deli and renowned Hitchcock Restaurant. Stop by the next time you’re on the island!

From the owners of popular Seattle Middle Eastern restaurant, Mamnoon, comes their highly anticipated follow-up, MBar. Located high atop the 14th floor of the 400 Fairview building in South Lake Union, MBar features two distinct dining areas: an indoor dining area, and outdoor space with a covered and uncovered seating, fire pits, and an outdoor bar. An expansive, unhindered view of Queen Anne and South Lake Union is definitely among the highlights of the space, in addition to a tasty menu led by Chef Jason Stratton.

Say hello to Pioneer Square’s newest underground haven: The Sovereign. Located in the basement of the historic Maynard Building, this stylish cocktail bar features stylish Art Deco and Art Nouveau design touches while retaining much of the building’s old world charm, such as original tile flooring. The owners of The Sovereign also own nearby bar and restaurant The Forge Lounge. Thus, there is some overlap between the two venue menus, but The Sovereign has its own unique focus on French-American and Afro-Caribbean cocktails and food.

Sandwiched between Mexico and Guatemala is the Central American country of Belize. As the only Central American country with English as its official language, Belize is unique in many ways, particularly its melting pot of cultures. On the coast, you’ll find cultural markers of Creole and Garifuna, while inland towns are full of more Hispanic and even Amish traditions.

I have been fortunate to make two trips to Belize. An ocean girl at heart, the beautiful islands of San Pedro and Caye Caulker were particularly charming, as was the old fishing village of Placencia. However, it was the mountainous, inland town of San Ignacio and its unique Mayan ruins that really captured my heart. Additionally, my home base of Hanna Stables simply couldn’t be beaten. Below, you’ll find select images from my two trips to Belize, plus video content.

MileIQ Partnership

I’ve been using MileIQ to track my business driving mileage since almost day one of my business. If you haven’t tried it before, it’s one of the best time-saving apps out there. It’s an app that automatically detects and logs your driving mileage. Gone are the days of having to keep written notes for tax time. Instead, all you have to do is refer to the app’s automatically generated data sheets.

Given how great this app is, it was a no-brainer to include it on my blog’s list of productivity apps. I remember writing the blog post and blasting it across all of my social media channels, tagging MileIQ whenever possible. First, they Tweeted their thanks. A few months later, they emailed me asking if I’d consider becoming an ambassador on their website. Not long after, I was booking a photo shoot for myself with the talented Kristy Lloyd Photography. Next thing I knew, I was on MileIQ’s website.
