Juanes @ WaMu Theater

Colombian singer Juanes kicked off his U.S. P.A.R.C.E. tour in Seattle at WaMu Theater on Thursday night.  The tour follows the recent release of his album P.A.R.C.E. and will take him throughout the U.S., ending in Orlando, Florida in October. Although the stage at WaMu is rather high, the pit was very roomy and the lighting was bright, but consistent.  Juanes tends to be very

Words: SXSW Survival Guide for Concert Photographers

This year, I’m gearing up for my first-ever experience down in Austin, Texas for the annual SXSW music festival.  Attended by thousands from around the world, Austin becomes a mecca for anyone who’s anyone in the entertainment business.  Personally, I’m going for the music part, and can’t hardly wait for the free flowing booze and music that everyone raves about.   Despite having only spent a

Emerald City Comicon 2011

It was that time of year again! Time for the annual Emerald City Comicon to take place at the Washington State Convention Center.  Hundreds (maybe even thousands) flocked to downtown Seattle to visit vendors, interact with their favorite comic book artists and publishers, attend celebrity panels, and have their photos taken with the handfuls of costumed characters running around.  From superheroes like Batman and Quail

Electronic DJ duo The Crystal Method were in town at Republiq in South Seattle, bringing the house down with their bumping jams.  The dynamic duo are best known for their music appearing in various shows, films, and commercials, and their 2007 best-selling album Vegas. Johnny Monsoon started the night off with a set of progressive house music. Despite the show being at a club with

Built for Man Fashion Show

Built for Man debuted its 2011/12 line of men's fashion in Capitol Hill at the Ferrari and Maserati dealership on 12th Avenue on the evening of February 22.  Guests as swanky as the cars and models inhabited the ritzy space for a quick 30 minute showing ofFrancisco Hernandez's latest line.  This was my first-ever attempt at shooting a fashion show, and although the models walked

The Lonely Forest Listening Party

Local Seattle favorite The Lonely Forest have a highly-anticipated second album coming out on March 22.  Arrows is expected to be a great followup to the already-released EP and full-length album.  The band's manager Lynn Resnick hosted an intimate listening party in north Queen Anne on a lovely Saturday afternoon.  Despite a brief power outage, we were treated to an acoustic set led by lead

Seattle Police Department Protests

On the night of Friday, February 18, I was lounging at home in Capitol Hill when my Twitter feed caught wind of Seattle Police Department (SPD) protests raging in downtown.  These were all in resistance to police brutality, with a particular focus on the recent decision to not prosecute former SPD officer Ian Birk in the shooting of homeless Native American woodcarver John T. Williams.

Words: A Surfer on Snowboarding (and vice-versa)

Twelve years ago, I did something I never thought I’d do: I learned how to surf.  I was at that awkward middle school age where up until that point, I conformed with everyone around me.  My friends were athletes, so I started running track.  My friends were honor roll students, so I was too.  BUT none of my friends did anything aquatic and luckily, the
