If Tuesday night could ever make you want to yell, “TGIF, ” that night was last night. Rocking the Paramount Theater in Seattle were a trifecta of three stellar pop bands: Icona Pop, Matt and Kim, and Passion Pit. The night kicked off with Swedish pop duo Icona Pop, perhaps best known right now for their smash single “I Love It,” which is making waves on the radio and as the theme song for the Jersey Shore spinoff “Snookie and JWOWW” (don’t ask me why I know that). Next up was another pop rock dynamic duo, Matt and Kim, arguably one of the best bands ever to shoot. Who knows the secret to their infectious energy, but whatever it is, it makes it impossible not to leave the show without a giant grin on your face. Headlining the evening was another Seattle band favorite, Passion Pit. Check out photos from the show below, along with a snippet that got picked up in Rolling Stone.

Truth be told, I’ve never actually logged on to Reddit until today. I noticed a huge spike in my website’s daily traffic, and after being tipped off by social media friends, I finally discovered the source. Thanks Seattle Reddit for linking my site!

It’s a worthy post, all in celebration of the newly-opened Von Trapp’s German beer hall in Capitol Hill, Seattle. Click here to see the original post, and stop by Von Trapp’s when you get a chance!

Of all the countries in the world, I have been to Germany the most. My love affair with the European country began at the tender age of 3 when my parents took me on a military space-A flight to visit Bavaria, walk through “Mad King Ludwig’s” Neuschwanstein Castle, drive the Romantic Road, and eat pretzels at Oktoberfest. Seventeen years later, I revisited Germany on the tail end of my month-long backpacking trip through Europe, wandering through Berlin and Munich during the heat of summer. A few years later, on yet another month-long travel spree, I found myself back in Bavaria, marveling (with a proper sense of wonder) at King Ludwig’s masterpiece, and driving the same romantic road I’d taken two decades earlier.

I say all of this to get to the point: after spending nearly my entire life traveling to Germany to get an authentic Bavarian experience, I’m happy to know that the warmth and raucousness of a German beer hall are now in my neck of the woods (meaning it’s closer than a 2 hour drive to Leavenworth).

The name of the game is Von Trapp’s (now called Rhein Haus) located in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood near Seattle University. The place is a giant barn of a building, with two upper decks, six indoor bocce ball courts, and tons of beer on tap and house-made sausages and pretzels for eating.

For more details on the 11,000 square foot building including 8 interesting design facts, head over to Eater Seattle. Interior photos are also featured below.

I first saw and photographed Ellie Goulding live at SXSW 2011, back when she was a breakout singer-songwriter fresh off the release of Lights.  On Monday night, I photographed her again at a sold out show at the Showbox SoDo here in Seattle. This time, she was hardly unknown. The audience was screaming for Goulding long before she took the stage, and many times they sang along with her. Since 2011, Goulding has enjoyed mass success off the title track from her 2011 album Lights, as well as mainstream success with her 2012 album Halycon  and hit single “Anything Could Happen.” She was also garnered some press while dating Skrillex last year, but Goulding is famous in her own right as Monday’s sold out show illustrated. Check out photos from the Seattle show in the gallery below!

Georgetown in South Seattle now has a snazzy, rustic new cocktail bar/restaurant to hang out at! Located next door to the Ground Control coffee shop, Brass Tacks is a large new space complete with foosball and shuffleboard, and nice spaces for large groups to toss drinks back after work. The space is owned and run by Alex and Jonathan Parisi and is officially open for business starting today, January 29, 2013. Stop on by!

My interior photos are published on Eater Seattle.

Having traveled to over 20 countries, it surprises even me that I’d never been to Mexico until 2013. It only took a few days down south before the allure of the country made me understand why so many people rave about Mexico. I ventured down south with a friend to Puerto Vallarta, a resort city situated on the Pacific Ocean’s Bahía de Banderas. Having grown up in a resort city (Hawaii), much of Puerto Vallarta’s commercialization seemed somewhat normal and uninteresting to me. Don’t get me wrong, I loved staying in the comforts of the all-inclusive resorts, but for all I knew, I could have been vacationing back home in Hawaii. Nothing about the resorts screamed “Mexico” to me. It wasn’t until we ventured to some of the smaller towns outside of the city when I really fell in love. Bucerías and Sayulita are two small beach towns I could spend some prolonged period of time in. I loved the charm of the former, and the surfing opportunities afforded by the latter. Backpackers, these are the two towns you definitely want to target.

Below, you’ll find some photos of the typical Puerto Vallarta sights of resorts, sunsets, beach, and a humpback whale tail (the bay is full of them). Sadly, little to no photos of Sayulita or Bucerías because honestly, I was too busy enjoying the sights to stop and take photos! Full photo gallery here.

Late last summer, the publicist at Linda’s Tavern in Seattle contacted me inquiring about having official press photos taken of all the Linda’s restaurants and bars in town. Known for their laid back dive bar vibes, Linda Derschang’s establishments of Linda’s Tavern, Smith, King’s Hardware, and Oddfellows are well-loved local haunts that apparently have been lacking in a library of good press photos. After several months of back-and-forth, we were finally able to proceed with the interior photo shoots, just in time for the winter opening of Linda’s newest establishment: Bait Shop on Broadway Avenue in Seattle’s Capitol Hill. Below are a few of the many official press photos taken of Bait Shop.

Announcing Hanna Stables New Website

Posted on

My website has been a bit bare over the last stretch of 2012 and into 2013, and at long last, I’m allowed to share the reason why. Most of my time has been dedicated to my latest business venture: developing a brand new travel and tourism website for Hanna Stables, a horseback riding establishment in Belize specializing in providing tours to Mayan ruins. My involvement included traveling to and working in San Ignacio, Belize for two and half weeks, and a month of working hard to produce the newly revamped HannaStables.com. This project has included content development, digital photography, web development, and lots of marketing research and implementation. For more details on the background of the project, please visit my new online tourism and travel marketing website, GeminiConnect.com.
