No other fast food chain in Seattle is as iconic as Dick’s Drive-In. With locations throughout the city including Capitol Hill, Wallingford, and Queen Anne (to name a few), Dick’s is the place of choice for a quick, cheap bite to eat during the day or late at night. Eater Seattle recently ran a  wonderful interview with Jim and Saul Spady, the son and grandson (respectively) of founder Dick Spady on the story of how the iconic burger joint came to be, and how it is faring today.

Ballard as an awesome new nautical-themed bar to welcome to the neighborhood! Named Anchors Down, the rustic interior is pieced together with weathered pieces of wood, antique sea gadgets, and lots of other features to make you feel as though you are actually in the belly of a ship. Run by Amy Graeff and Cristopher Williams, Laura Olson of the neighboring Po Dog eatery is a silent partner in the business.

The highly anticipated new bar Radiator Whiskey made its grand debut on April 17. Situated in Pike Place Market across from sibling restaurant Matt’s in the Market, the whiskey bar and eatery features lots of liquors and smoked pork of just about any part of the pig you could want (lips? ears? brain?). Great for happy hour, late night get-togethers, or adventurous dining.

Check out the published photo gallery on Eater Seattle, or the full gallery (with more food shots) up on Flickr.

Photos: Rihanna and A$AP Rocky in Seattle

It’s hard to believe that Rihanna has been performing for nearly a decade now. Going through her catalogue in preparation for seeing her live, I’d kind of forgotten just how many hit songs Rihanna had, and just how many I knew all the words to. From her first hit “Pon de Replay” in 2005, to “Umbrella” in 2008, to “S&M” in 2010 to 2012’s “Diamonds,” there are a ton of Rihanna songs that I’ve been listening to for years.

Anyone out there excited for the Game of Thrones season 3 premiere later this month? HBO has been doing select season 3 premiere stops in cities such as San Francisco, and most recently Seattle, bringing with them a few members of the Game of Thrones cast. On Thursday, March 21, HBO brought their crew to Seattle’s Cinerama theater, where fans and media gathered for the red carpet arrivals of stars including Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, John Bradley, Rose Leslie, Natalie Dormer, and Kit Harington.  The COO of HBO, Eric Kesler, and the creators of Game of Thrones, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, also made appearances. Also on hand were some of the Seattle Sounders soccer players including Marcus Hahnemann, Marc Burch, Zach Scott, and Andrew Duran. Following the special screening, an elaborate after-party full of decorations, food, and a mock Iron Throne was held at the EMP Museum near the Space Needle.

Photos: SXSW 2013 Music Coverage

As I took on my second SXSW week of music mania in Austin, Texas, this past week, I couldn’t help but think that the behemoth of a festival seemed bigger than ever. Lines were longer, shows were more packed, and getting into shows was nearly impossible, even for those with so-called “press/photo passes.” Anyway, my 6 days of running around SXSW left me feeling one overriding emotion in particular: humbleness. Waiting in lines with other fans, getting denied at the door despite having “credentials,” etc, etc. It was hardly like the previous SXSW I’d attended (27 bands this year, versus 57 the year prior), but after a day or so of frustration, I decided to take SXSW for what it was originally intended for: enjoying music and discovering new bands. And discover I did! Some new (to me) bands that are now stuck on repeat on my Spotify playlists include: Palma Violets, Savages, Haim, Parquet Courts, NO, Feathers, Atlas Genius, and CHVRCHES. Other bands I’d known of but particularly enjoyed their live sets at SXSW this year were Bass Drum of Death, Solange, Tegan and Sara, and The Black Lips. Anyway, til next time, SX!

This year, I had the pleasure of attending Emerald City ComiCon for the 2nd time ever. Celebrity panels this year were pretty awesome, including Adam West and Burt Ward (Batman and Robin!), Gillian Anderson, Billy Dee Williams, Christopher Lloyd, Walter Koenig, and Sir Patrick Stewart, to name a few. Below is a gallery of images photographed for Getty Images. Check out the full image galleries on Flickr (links below):
