A Day Trip to Orcas Island

Ever fancy a day trip to Orcas Island? It might seem difficult to get from Seattle to the San Juan islands and back in less than a day. But thanks to Kenmore Air, it’s entirely possible. Sure, it costs more than driving up. But what you spend in money, you make up in time. A one-way flight to the San Juans from South Lake Union runs just under and hour!

I made the trip to Orcas Island via Kenmore Air seaplane this summer enjoyed every minute of my journey. Not only is Orcas an enchanting place in its own right, but the experience of flying in a seaplane is indescribable. I recently partnered with Ivar’s Seafood Restaurants (famous for their delicious chowder) to highlight a day trip to Orcas Island via seaplane. Cocktail Photos for Highball Week

This summer, The Stranger ran a series of 15 speciality cocktails for $5 each. The campaign was called Highball Week and it included drink specials from the likes of The Carlile Room, Dumpling Tzar, Bar Ciudad, and much more. As a photography assignment, it was a fun challenge to shoot a variety of cocktails in settings all around Seattle.

Seattle Art Fair and Sotheby’s at Microsoft

Ever since its inception in 2015, the Seattle Art Fair has continued to grow bigger every year. The brainchild of Paul Allen takes place at CenturyLink Field Event Center every August. But in addition to the annual event, Seattle Art Fair holds smaller seminars and events throughout the year. One such event was co-hosted by Sotheby’s and Microsoft in downtown Bellevue.

Moderated by Lucian Simmons of Sotheby’s, the session included talks by Dylan Farnum of the Walla Walla Foundry and Alexandre Catsicas of Artmyn. I was honored to photograph the event on behalf of Sotheby’s. Check out event photos from the afternoon below!

This summer, I worked with Smith Tower to capture interior photos of this iconic Seattle skyscraper. The main objective was the capture photos of the updated Smith Tower Observatory, along with exhibits on the first floor. Office space for lease and available tenant amenities were also photographed.

This summer, Metallica rocked CenturyLink Field with their first performance in Seattle in nine years. The thrash-metal band was touring in support of their new album, “Hardwired…to Self Destruct.” Openers Gojira and Avenged Sevenfold got the audience pumped up. By the time James Hetfield and the rest of Metallica took the stage, the crowd was already going crazy. The setlist, as seen below, included a bunch of hits mixed with some new songs. Cinque Terre Ristorante

Get whisked away on a culinary journey to Italy at Cinque Terre Ristorante in Seattle! This modern, upscale restaurant features a take on Italian dishes, seafood, and cocktails. Located at the base of a large Amazon building, it’s conveniently located on the north end of downtown Seattle. I photographed the restaurant interiors for Wilcox Construction. BIG3 Basketball Playoffs at KeyArena

On Sunday, August 20, the BIG3 Basketball Playoffs came to KeyArena in Seattle. Co-founder Ice Cube was in attendance, as well as many legendary NBA players. Some players were on the active teams vying for the championship title. Others such as Allen Iverson and Gary Payton served as team coaches. Other local Seattle celebrities in attendance included the Seahawks’ Richard Sherman and Bobby Wagner, and Sir Mix-a-Lot. The arena was filled with hundreds of local basketball fans, there were resounding signs of the crowd’s desire for the NBA’s rumored return to Seattle.

This summer, I worked with Elliott’s Oyster House restaurant to capture exterior photos. Given the restaurant’s location in the Seattle waterfront, sunrise and sunset photos were needed to capture the best skies without harsh lighting. Needless the say, the approach was slightly different than my previous food photography shoots at Elliott’s. Check out images of the restaurant shoots below!

As the Amazon Spheres continue to develop, so too do the amount of food and drink options surrounding the retail giant’s downtown campus. Among the newest developments is 2120 Restaurant. Its sleek, urban space is complementary to the nearby Spheres that are visible from the restaurant. Food-wise, the menu is Latin-inspired and changes seasonally. You’ll find items like the Painted Hills New York “Asada,” Rock of Lamb “Mixiote,” and Duo of Rabbit. Don’t forget to start with some small plates such as Bacalao Cakes, Hibiscus Braised Beets, and Anderson Ranch Lamb Tartare.  Executive Chef Derek Bugge makes a point to use only the freshest, local ingredients. Over at the bar, Dakota Stockert designs a playful yet approachable cocktail menu.

Food-wise, the menu is Latin-inspired and changes seasonally. You’ll find items like the Painted Hills New York “Asada,” Rock of Lamb “Mixiote,” and Duo of Rabbit. Tarsan i Jane Restaurant Refresh

Ever since Tarsan i Jane arrived in Seattle, they’ve become one of the city’s top dining destinations. Chef Perfecte Rocher’s inventive cuisine has caught the attention of both local and national media. But one aspect of the restaurant that hadn’t been personalized was the interior. The space was designed by its former restaurant tenant, Tray Kitchen. While Perfecte and his wife Alia made some design changes to fit their style, an overhaul was on their mind.

In summer 2017, the restaurant finally underwent interior and exterior renovations. The result is a dining area with darker color tones in complete contrast the space’s former all-white interior. A covered patio was also added outdoors, intended to serve private groups. Take a peek inside of the brand new Tarsan i Jane restaurant below!
