Chef Tamara Murphy's culinary hotspot Terra Plata opened in Capitol Hill, Seattle last fall after much-waited anticipation.  The restaurant space in Melrose Market was once the spot of a car dealership, but you'd never be able to tell.  Its rustic yet elegant interior is dimly lit and serves up a host of earthy dishes.  I had the pleasure of photographing Terra Plata's interior as well

Words & Photos: 2011 In Review

Earlier in December, I was given my annual performance review at work, and I figured I'd do the same for myself on a personal basis.  This is largely inspired by Chris Guillebeau's 2011 Annual Review he conducts on his alternative lifestyle website The Art of Non-Conformity. His post format encourages readers to first look back at the year, evaluating what went well, and what didn't.

Photos: Watch the Throne (Jay Z & Kanye West)

Legendary masters of hip-hop Jay-Z and Kanye West are touring North America with their creative collaboration Watch the Throne. On Friday night, the duo made their appearance in Seattle at the Tacoma Dome, where a packed audience couldn't get enough of the two superstars. ECSTATIC doesn't even begin to describe the amount of excitement I had in anticipation for shooting this show, as I've been

Meeting one of your idols is a rare and special occasion that is undoubtedly marked by at least one embarrassing foot-in-mouth moment.  In the case of every personal idol I've met, I usually suffer from a severe lack of words, leaving me dumbfounded and mute as every burning question and compliment I've ever had for that person suddenly evaporates from my mind.  Meeting legendary photographer

Seoul Searching – A Korean Adoptee’s Story

November 2011 is a month that I'll never forget. It was when I met my very first blood relative and had a life-changing experience in Seoul, South Korea. For those who don't know, I was adopted from Seoul, South Korea at the age of six months to my Japanese American adoptive mother and Caucasian adoptive father. In Hawaii, it's pretty common for children to be hapa

The third annual SteamCon went down at the Hyatt Regency, Bellevue, WA during the weekend of October 16.  Costumed Steampunk aficionados filled the conference rooms of the hotel for three days straight, relishing in each others' elaborate outfits and attending various forums.  Check out all the costumes at Metromix Seattle, with more photos on Flickr!

Photos: Fremont Oktoberfest 2011

The annual Fremont Oktoberfest went down from September 23-25 in Seattle, WA bringing out tons of people for samplings of beer, pretzels, and other German fare.  Quite possibly the most 'fun' spectacles included the chainsaw pumpkin carving, 5K run, and CityDog Magazine's dog modeling contest.  Some fun stats via Fremont Universe: 20,000 people gathered in the Tasting Garden to taste over 100 beers. 5,000 guests

Photos: Tomato Battle Seattle

Have you ever wanted to reenact the world famous Tomatina in Spain? In September, Seattle had the one-of-a-kind opportunity to do so! For the first time ever, the Tomato Battle came to the Emerald City, allowing Seattleites to plunge into a mass of rotten tomatoes and pelt each other with them.  It was a mess of a good time, with most attendees decked out
