Photos from the opening night of the latest exhibit at Seattle’s EMP Museum: Rebel, Jedi, Princess, Queen: Star Wars and the Power of Costume. The evening featured many costumed guests as well as original Star Wars actors Anthony Daniels (C3PO) and Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian). There was also exclusive access all evening to the exhibit which highlighted original costumes from all of the Star Wars movies including the famous Princess Leia bikini, Darth Vader suit, Chewbacca suit, and C3PO and R2D2 units.

Through the Eyes of Art Black History Month Kick-Off @ EMP Museum

Through the Eyes of Art is Seattle’s premier Black History Month celebration. This year’s theme is “The Value of Black Life” and it was held at the EMP Museum. It featured an evening hosted by Seattle City Council member Bruce Harrell, as well as speeches from Jonathan Cunningham, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, and a presentation of theThrough the Eyes of Art Service Award to local activist Eddie Rye Jr. After the program, a concert was put on by local breakout star Draze, and special guest hip-hop heavyweight, Talib Kweli.

Photos: Pike Place Market for Visit Seattle

Pike Place Market is one of those iconic, albeit touristy, parts of Seattle that I just can’t fall out of love with. No matter the season, it’s always a vibrant and bustling part of the city that I just love strolling through to sample some fresh cut fruit, chat with vendors, listen to buskers, and of course watch the crowd gather around for the famous fish throwing.

Throughout my last three and a half years as a restaurant and events photographer in Seattle, I’ve done my fair share of photo shoots at Pike Place with a particular concentration on the restaurants including the one made famous by Sleepless in Seattle. However, I’ve never had a photo assignment centered on the heart and soul of Pike Place: its vendors.

That all changed in late summer 2014 when I collaborated with the fine folks at Visit Seattle to do my dream assignment: spend 2 days hanging out at Pike Place Market chatting with vendors and capturing photos to document all of the fun and unique things that happen at the market. This was one of my absolute favorite photography assignments to date as it was the perfect blend of photojournalism and what I deem to be travel photography: capturing images that (hopefully!) entice others to want to travel to the location in which they were taken.

The result was a spread of images in the Winter/Spring 2014-2015 issue ofVisit Seattle, the official visitor’s guide to our city. The issue is available on news stands throughout the city, the easiest to find likely being the information desk at Pacific Place, and it is also available for viewing online here. Wizard World Comic Con held its third annual event at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon this past weekend. Attracting floods of costumed fans of all ages during its three day run, Wizard World Comic Con was an incredible success featuring many guest panels conducted by celebrities including Alan Tudyk (Frozen), Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy), Stephen Amell (Arrow), Karl Urban (Judge Dredd), Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf), Caity Loiz, Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break, The Walking Dead Jason David Frank (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Katee Sackhoff, Sasha Roiz (Grimm), WWE’s Daniel Bryan and The Bella Twins, Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk), and many more.

Photos: Death Cab for Cutie

Ben Gibbard and his band Death Cab for Cutie perform a sold out show at The Crocodile in Seattle, Washington on the evening of Tuesday, January 20th. The band played lots of their hits as well as previews of brand news songs that will be on their new album Kintsugi, due out on March 31th. Eric Elbogen of Say Hi opened the evening.

Like most other twenty-somethings, Death Cab for Cutie was part of the musical soundtrack of my early adulthood. When I arrived in Washington state fresh off of the island (of Hawaii), I knew next to nothing about Seattle’s vibrant music scene. What can I say, Hawaii’s music scene was and still is largely obsessed with reggae and Hawaiian music. Grunge never really made its way out to the islands, at least not in the circles of friends I had. But thanks to my newfound college friends, I soon became entrenched in the musical worlds of Modest Mouse, The Sonics, Sleater-Kinney, and of course Death Cab for Cutie. From 2003’s Transatlanticism to 2008’s Narrow Stairs, Death Cab’s albums spanned my entire four year college career and I have many late nights of studying and pre-funk party memories, all to the tune of Ben Gibbard et al’s incredibly catchy tunes. Since then, I’ve seen the band play at a variety of venues throughout Seattle, from KeyArena to Marymoor Park, but this was the first time I’d had the privilege of seeing the band play at a smaller, more intimate venue like The Crocodile.

Yardhouse Apartments are brand new one-bedroom and studio spaces in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Boasting high-end fixtures and finishes including bamboo floors and quartz countertops, Yardhouse is also highly unique for its private interior courtyard. I worked with the developers of the property to take night time shots of the interior and exterior, focused on also capturing people lingering within the apartment’s spaces during Yardhouse’s community open house event. Heavy rain throughout the night made for challenging conditions, but overall the results turned out pretty well. Check out images from the shoot below.
