Waikiki Zoo Adventure

Can you remember the last time you went to the zoo?  At age 24, I vaguely recall visiting Point Defiance while going to university in Tacoma, and the zoo in Barcelona, Spain.  However, I really couldn’t recall visiting the zoo of my childhood in Waikiki.  While visiting home, my best friend suggested we spend an afternoon with the animals, and I happily agreed.  The Waikiki Zoo has been through several renovations over the past years, and the elephant section is the last to be transitioned.  As a result, the elephants part was the only one I vividly remembered; everything else seemed relatively new and unfamiliar.  At the Waikiki Zoo, you’ll find a lot of African safari animals (giraffes, rhinos, hippos, lions, elephants), tropical birds (toucans, lovebirds), reptiles (the only place to find snakes in Hawaii), tortoises, monkeys/gibbons, and, my all-time favorite, TIGERS (no bears though).  Other sea life must be found at the nearby aquarium, Sea Life Park, or the nearest beach.  Some photos below, with more on Flickr.
