Dave Niehaus Memorial

Dave Niehaus was in every way a Seattle legend. He was the lead broadcaster for the American League's Seattle Mariners from their inaugural season in 1977 until his death after the 2010 season. His celebration of life was held at his second home of Safeco Field, and in attendance were family, friends, and devoted fans. Read the full story on Seattlest. More photos available on

South Sound Basketball Playoffs

Using my brand new telephoto lens, I photographed my second sports event: a playoff game for the local South Sound Basketball League.  Sports photography is definitely more dynamic and fast-paced than the average concert photography setting.  The subjects move faster, it's hard to keep track of them, and they have a much larger surface to move about.  It certainly helps to know how the game

Gwar

Shock rockers Gwar are known for their sci-fi costumes and infamously messy live shows, which feature spewing of fake bodily fluids out onto the crowd.  Their November 28th show at the Showbox SoDo did not disappoint fans, many of whom were clad in pure white shirts, hoping to get drenched in "blood." Even photographers aren't exempt from getting squirted in the face (or lens), and

Robyn

Swedish pop star Robyn finally made a trip out to Seattle in November, to the delight of her many Pacific Northwest fans.  Neumos, packed to the brim, was briefly transformed into a sweaty dance club as fans danced and sung along with Robyn.  Although she was a smash hit in the 90s, best known for her song "Show Me Love," Robyn has made a sensational

A Perfect Circle

A Perfect Circle performing the first of three live shows in Seattle, playing the album Mer de Noms in its entirety.  No fan photography was allowed, even from camera phones, so we photographers in the pit did our best to snap as many shots as we could in the quick three-song limit.  Although lead singer Maynard James Keenan stood on the back riser, blocked from

Pleasure, Happiness, and Travel

"....Americans have an inability to relax into sheer pleasure.Ours is an entertainment seeking-nation, but not necessarily a pleasure-seeking one....This is the cause of that great sad American stereotype- the overstressed executive who goes on vacation, but who cannot relax...But is it such a bad thing to live like this for just a little while? Just for a few months of one's life, is

Wrapping Up 1 Month of Travel

A huge leafy green salad. That is the one thing my body is craving when I touch down onto US soil in Houston after my 9 hour flight out of Amsterdam Schipol.  The nutella-peanut butter sandwich and stroopwafle had definitely worn off, so a Wendy's chicken salad leaves me contented, and thus, my one month of traveling is coming to an end.  I can hardly

Bavaria, Germany

Sadly, I am no longer in beautiful Bavaria, but I was fortunate enough to spend last weekend with two of my favorite people in southern Germany doing the route my parents took me on 20 years ago when I was a toddler. "Sprechen Sie deutsch?" "Nein...definitely nein." There's no better way to be humbled than to realize that you can't even walk into a store
